Standing proudly over the Ribble Valley for over 800 years, Clitheroe Castle is not just a historic landmark—it is the heart of the local heritage. Being selected to enhance and preserve this incredible site is a responsibility Groundwork Direct does not take lightly.
During the project Groundwork Direct will install new benches, bins and seats, resurface paths and steps, improve lighting, and completely revamp the iconic bandstand.
Groundwork Direct’s approach balances modern functionality with a deep respect for historical integrity. Through careful planning and the use of specialised techniques, Groundwork Direct will ensure that Clitheroe Castle remains a vibrant, safe, and accessible destination for generations to come.
Groundwork Direct started work on the project in May 2026, and work will continue to progress throughout the summer months. Groundwork Direct are committed to minimising disruption to regular visitors and the surrounding neighbourhood throughout the construction phases.
